Access disability access was inspired by various participants who reside at a home that caters for chronically physically disabled adults in need of assistance, either by choice or because of circumstances beyond their control. The illustrations present ideas participants have about themselves, their lived experience, their memories and dreams, and the challenges they have and continue to face. “Positive” representations do not necessarily refer to positive images and emotions that communicate happiness or joy, for example. “Positive” refers to a more accurate representation of the participants, as informed by themselves. The disability identity consists of both positive and negative emotions, as most human experiences do.
